The government of Ecuador congratulated the people of the United States of America for the electoral process carried out on November 8, 2016.

In an official announcement, the Ministry of Foreign affairs said that the government of Ecuador “hopes to maintain relations based on mutual respect with the administration of elected president Donald Trump.”

In a previous interview with RT, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa, with an ironic tone, said that “for Latin America it would be better if Trump won the presidency.”

“When did all progressive governments come to power, with Obama or with Bush? Such was the rejection, the reaction, to the primary, elementary policies of Bush that this generated a whole reaction in Latin America. Trump would generate the same,” he said.
